Arizona Cardinals’ GM Charged with Extreme DUI

The state of Arizona is extremely tough on drunk drivers. They don’t care how rich or famous you might be; who you are doesn’t matter when arresting drunk drivers in AZ. Keeping up with this tough stance on DUI’s, Steve Keim, Arizona Cardinals General Manager was arrested for DUI on July 4th, 2018 in Chandler, Arizona.

The general manager of the Arizona Cardinals NFL team plead guilty to Extreme DUI relating to his 4th of July arrest. According to police documents, Keim’s BAC (blood alcohol content) was .193; more than twice the legal limit (which is .08). Keim stayed just under the Super Extreme DUI threshold of .20 BAC, which should save Keim some fine money and time in jail.

Extreme DUI is a class 1 misdemeanor in Arizona. An extreme DUI conviction may result in 30 days jail. Keim will probably not be given the 30 days in jail maximum but assuredly will spend some time in jail for his drunk driving arrest. The legal BAC limit in Arizona is .08 percent. Arizona is a no tolerance state when it comes to driving under the influence. Also, the team announced that Keim would only be allowed to join the team after completing counseling, a DUI education course, and an evaluation.

    A positive from this arrest, Keim’s fine ($200,000) will be donated by the Arizona Cardinals to the Arizona chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).

    The Cardinal team representative stated that those in leadership positions do bear a greater responsibility and are held to a higher standard. Keim is banned from the team’s facilities and may not have any contact with the team while serving his five week suspension. The Cardinals will report for training camp on July 27 without their general manager. Keim will miss two pre-season games as a result of the suspension handed down by the Arizona Cardinals.
